WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND - IN MIAMI THAT IS!
Friday, November 28, 2008
One of the great things about living in the Miami area: while the weather is turning fierce
up north, we are just starting to pull out our sweaters for lows in the mid 70’s! So what to
do this winter season? Well, there are several events coming up!
Something that my children and I look forward to every year is the Broward County Fair
taking place from November 20th-30th. Whether you enjoy riding the rides as I do, eating
the food (the funnel cakes are my favorite), seeing the prize winning animals or enjoying
one of many one day events, the Broward County Fair is sure to please!
If the fair is not your thing, there is also the annual Candy Cane Parade taking place on
Hollywood Beach on December 6th at 7:00p.m. (free event). On Tuesday, December 30th
at 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday December 31st at 9:30 p.m., see the 10th annual performance
of Ocean Dance on Hollywood Beach at Johnson Street. This is also a free event, unless
you want VIP seating. On January 16th there will be a Martin Luther King, Jr. Gala at the
Weston Diplomat Resort and Spa which will cost $75.00 per ticket and feature a cocktail
hour followed by a presentation by television actor and stage performer Darryl VanLeer.
Not to be missed is the First Annual Hot Air Balloon Fest sponsored by ReMax Executive
Realty and chaired by none other than Ellen Bithell…me! This gala event will be held January
2nd, 3rd and 4th on Hollywood Beach and will feature tethered hot air balloon rides for $20
each. This is a 50/50 event: 50% of revenue will cover expenses; the remaining 50% will be
donated to the Children’s Miracle Network.
Finally there is a FREE Hollywood West Concert Series on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of
January, February and March from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the Boulevard Heights
Amphitheatre located at 6770 Garfield Street. Just bring a blanket or a lawn chair, sit
back and enjoy the music.
