The city of Miami, just a short drive away, is home to a variety of private schools, including several Catholic schools, Miami Country Day School and Westminster Christian School.

South Florida offers a number of colleges and universities. Among these are: Barry University, a private Catholic college in nearby North Miami, Miami-Dade College and Biscayne Bay Campus, which is a branch of Florida International University.

South Florida offers a number of excellent hospitals and acute care facilities. These include Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, North Shore Medical Center in Miami and Aventura Hospital & Medical Center in Aventura.

Since the town of Bay Harbor Islands is less than 1/2-square mile in area, getting around is easy. For trips out of town, North Miami, Aventura and the city of Miami are just across the Broad Causeway to the west. Bal Harbour and Miami Beach are just across the Kane Concourse to the east. The city also operates a mini-shuttle that runs Monday through Friday connecting the town with Surfside, Aventura and North Miami.

Bay Harbor Islands is a short drive to Miami International Airport. This 3,230-acre facility handles more than 39 million passengers annually and offers non-stop flights to 133 domestic and international destinations.
