Schools, Health, Transportation

North Miami Beach school-age children attend Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the largest school district in Florida and the fourth largest in the United States. Ten schools are located within North Miami Beach: five elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools. The area also offers a variety of religious and secular private schools, including Yeshiva Toras Chaim/Toras Emes Academy of Miami, a large Jewish school. There is also Beth Jacob High School and Allison Academy, a nonsectarian, coed middle and high school.

For higher education, South Florida offers a number of colleges and universities. Miami-Dade College is south of North Miami Beach. Several other schools, including the University of Miami, Miami International University of Art and Design and Barry University, a private liberal arts Catholic college, are located in the greater Miami area.

South Florida offers a number of top-rated hospitals, including Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, North Shore Medical Center in Miami and Aventura Hospital & Medical Center in Aventura.

For getting around town, U.S. 1 runs north and south on the east side of town and connects the city with other communities along the coast. NE 163rd Street connects North Miami Beach with Miami Beach and the other communities on the islands. Additionaly, the Miami-Dade Transit System operates 17 buses that connect North Miami Beach with other points in Dade County. The city is also home to the Intermodal Center, a park-and-ride facility that is serviced by nine bus routes.

For trips further afield, North Miami Beach is less than an hour's drive from Miami International Airport, the largest airport in Florida. This 3,920-acre facility offers daily non-stop flights to more than 100 destinations in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe and beyond. For owners of private aircraft, there are two general aviation fields in the greater Miami area.
